“Fu la Spagna”

Graphic design, catalogue and exhibition design for “Fu la Spagna – The fascist view of the Spanish Civil War” (Museu d’Història de Catalunya, Barcelona, 18/11/2016 – 19/2/2017). Using some 300 images the exhibition analyses the representation of Mussolini’s military intervention in the conflict from the viewpoint of fascist Italy. The exhibition, conceived by Daniela Aronica, follows three routes, marked with different background colours: one based on war, one thematic and the third showing the activity of the media.

The photos have been classified into three typologies according to origin (press, private or institutional holdings and collections), marked with different icons and colours corresponding to those of the Italian flag. In order to create the visual identity of the event, the graphic language of the time has been analysed, using forms and colours of military inspiration as well as the Mostra Nuova font (Mark Simonson, 2009), inspired by the Italian posters of the 1930s.

This traveling exhibition was held, between 2016 and 2018, also in Terrassa, Bolzano, Bilbao and Rome.
