“Manacor” Tourism logo

The Manacor town council (Majorca, Spain) in 1996 held a design contest to create a logo to promote tourism in the eastern part of the island. Our logo, which won, is inspired by the phrase “Mà en el cor” (“hand on heart” in Catalan) which could be one of the possible origins of the name. In its shape, apart of hand and heart, the references to sun rays and sea waves are quite clear. In the original project, which over the years has been retouched by many hands and has inevitably undergone several modifications and interpretations, the ‘o’ of the word Manacor meant to evoke the stylized shape of a pearl that referred to the artificial pearls industry, of particular importance for the economy of the city.
